Lorry Blaze at Clacket Lane Services Sparks Arson Probe
Surrey Police are hunting witnesses after a lorry went up in flames at Clacket Lane Southside Services late on Tuesday, 8 November. Officers suspect the fire was deliberately set between 11pm and midnight while the truck was parked up.
Christmas Decorations Trailer Destroyed
The green curtain side trailer, loaded with Christmas decorations, was found completely burnt out. The lorry driver was asleep in his cab when a fellow trucker spotted the blaze and woke him just in time. He managed to detach his cab and drive away, narrowly avoiding injury and further damage.
Suspicious Damage to Other Lorries
Police noticed other curtain side lorries had been slashed at the scene. Detectives are probing whether these incidents are linked to the fire, with an arson investigation now underway.
Officer Pleads for Witnesses
PC David Every from the Tandridge Area Policing Team said: “I urge anyone who was at the services that evening and saw suspicious behaviour to come forward. The fire destroyed the vehicle, but it could have been much worse if the driver hadn’t been alerted in time.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting incident number 45160098898.
