Man Found Guilty of Murdering Boxing Mum Ahead of Charity Match
Wojciech Tadewicz, 27, from Hayes, was unanimously found guilty of murdering Sandra Zmijan, 31, following a chilling trial at the Old Bailey. The verdict came down on 5 December.
Tragic Night at Tadewicz’s Home
Sandra, a mother of two and amateur boxer, visited Tadewicz’s flat on 20 September 2018 to collect a ticket for a charity boxing event the next day. The pair had been in a six-month relationship, but Sandra recently told Tadewicz she wanted to remain friends.
Detectives uncovered from CCTV and Oyster card data that Sandra made the trip to Tadewicz’s address but never returned home.
Disturbing Discovery and Police Search
Early on 21 September, Tadewicz’s housemates found him with severe cuts to his wrists and arms. He claimed a cannabis-induced blackout left him unaware of how he was injured. Emergency services rushed him to hospital.
Sandra was reported missing two days later after failing to return home. Her desperate family and friends tried contacting her repeatedly.
On 24 September, Sandra’s phone was answered by Tadewicz’s sister, who had found it in his room. Police were called back to the scene, where Sandra’s body was grimly discovered behind trees in the garden.
Hammer Horror and Murder Charge
A blood-stained claw hammer was found beside Sandra’s body. The post-mortem revealed a fatal head injury caused by a heavy blunt object – confirming a brutal attack.
Tadewicz was arrested at hospital and gave ‘no comment’ interviews before being charged with murder two days later.
Tadewicz faces sentencing at the Old Bailey on 6 December.
