Paedophile Jailed for 11 Years Over Horrific Abuse of Two Boys – 30 Years On!
Abuser Finally Brought to Justice
Graham Brightwell, 69, from Lambeth, has been locked up for a total of 11 years at Isleworth Crown Court. The vile crimes happened more than three decades ago, but justice has finally caught up with him.
Shocking Crimes Spanned Nearly a Decade
Brightwell pleaded guilty to one count of attempted buggery and six counts of indecent assault – including a charge involving multiple incidents. The abuse targeted two young boys during the late 1970s and 1980s. One victim revealed the nightmare lasted eight long years, only ending when he turned 16.
Victims Show Bravery Decades Later
The horrific offences weren’t reported until September 2017. Both victims bravely came forward with detailed statements that led to Brightwell’s arrest in April 2018. He admitted his crimes in June 2020.
DC Graham Blake from the West Area safeguarding unit said: “Brightwell took advantage of his young victims’ vulnerability, sexually abusing them on numerous occasions when the opportunities arose. I would like to praise the victims’ courage in reporting what happened. A serious crime committed 30 years ago is still a crime.
“Investigating historical sexual offences is challenging, but we have specially trained officers who pursue every lead and prosecute where evidence supports it.”
Justice may have taken its time, but Brightwell’s reign of terror is finally over.
