Fly-Tipper Caught and Hit with £400 Fine in Rowlands Castle
A fly-tip dump on a dark, rural lane in Rowlands Castle has cost a local resident £400 after an East Hampshire Council probe.
Dodgy Waste Disposal Racket Revealed
The illegal rubbish pile, full of garden clippings and household trash, was spotted on 1 Lane on October 8. Environmental Enforcement Officers tracked down the culprit—a Havant resident who paid a stranger £80 to cart their waste away.
But the cheeky resident didn’t get a receipt, didn’t check if the bloke had a waste carrier’s licence, and has no clue who he was. Their lack of due diligence landed them with a hefty Fixed Penalty Notice for flouting Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Council Warns: Don’t Get Caught Out
“Our enforcement officers work hard to crack down on fly-tipping and follow the evidence trail to find the culprits,”
said Cllr Ingrid Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Quality.
“This case is another win for their efforts and a clear warning: check your paperwork before handing over your rubbish or you could face a nasty bill.”
Remember: Always verify your waste carrier’s licence and get a proper receipt. Otherwise, the fine could cost you far more than a few quid.
