Sex Offender Caught with Banned Phone and Fake ID
Sanjoy Rajput, 53, shattered his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by using a mobile phone he wasn’t allowed to have. Officers from the Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team caught him red-handed during a surprise raid at his Harebell Drive home in Witham on 23 September.
New Credit Card Sparks Fresh Suspicion
Further inspection revealed Rajput had recently got a new credit card — something he failed to report to authorities, breaching the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Even worse, he was using an alias to groom young girls online.
Jail Time for Breaking Sex Offender Rules
Rajput was arrested, charged with breaching his SHPO and five counts of failing to notify the sex offenders’ register. He admitted guilt at Chelmsford Crown Court on 22 October. On 27 November, he was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
Detective Inspector Nathan Hutchinson, head of MOSOVO north, said: “This investigation highlights the vital work we do to keep the public safe from sex offenders. We regularly visit registered offenders to ensure they follow their restrictions. Most do, but when they don’t, we act fast to bring them before the courts.”
“Many people don’t want to think about sex offenders living nearby, but I hope the public finds reassurance knowing our dedicated, trained officers are managing these risks.”
Inside MOSOVO: The Frontline Against Dangerous Offenders
MOSOVO is key to protecting the county from its most dangerous sex and violent offenders. They work closely with the national Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) to reduce re-offending.
- Risk assess offenders before and after prison release
- Carry out unannounced home visits
- Operate in plain clothes, away from public view
- Ensure swift justice when offenders break rules
Their relentless vigilance is crucial to keeping communities safe from registered sexual and violent offenders.
