Two Men Jailed for Creeper Burglaries Targeting Elderly Women

Two men have been handed four-year prison sentences for a string of creeper burglaries, including raids on the homes of elderly clients from a care agency. Allyn Freeman, 33, of Bryn Wyre, Aberystwyth, and Daniel Bloomer, 23, of Devils Bridge, admitted breaking into homes in Aberystwyth during 2018. They were sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on December 2 after pleading guilty.

Shock Break-Ins While Victims Slept

Dyfed-Powys Police cracked the case through painstaking investigations involving crime scene analysis, ANPR, mobile phone tracking, and CCTV footage. The pair targeted vulnerable elderly women while they slept, sending shockwaves through the quiet community.

“These creeper burglaries happened as the victims, all elderly women, slept. It must have been a terrifying ordeal,” said Police Sergeant Steven Jones. “We’re pleased the evidence was strong enough for them to confess and face justice.”

Details of the Burglaries

  • February 10, 2018: Freeman and Bloomer broke into an elderly lady’s home in Cwmrheidol. She woke to find her bank cards, £70 cash, and mobile phone stolen.
  • February 22, 2018: The duo burgled another elderly woman’s home in Llanfarian. She was a client of the care agency where Bloomer worked. They stole her handbag containing £100–£200 in cash, two cheque books, and a gold cross pin.
  • February 23, 2018: A third breach in Penglais Hill saw the victim awoken by noises. She confronted the intruder, heard the demand, “Where’s your handbag?” before he fled. Nothing was taken in this incident.

All victims received support from police burglary officers.

Additional Offences and Sentencing

Besides the dwelling burglaries, Freeman and Bloomer also admitted breaking into Ysgol Mynach in Devils Bridge on February 10, 2018.

They were sentenced to four years for conspiracy to commit dwelling burglary. Additional concurrent sentences included one year for commercial burglary and one month for conspiracy to steal.

Bloomer faces an extra six months for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after attempting to bribe Freeman into lying to the police.

The community can now breathe easier with these callous creepers behind bars.
