Great-Niece and Nephew Steal £14,000 from Dying 91-Year-Old Aunt

A heartbreaking betrayal unfolded as twins Jenna and Jon Dyer, 36, swindled over £14,000 from their 91-year-old great aunt while she battled cancer. The siblings drained cash from three accounts using her bank cards over just three months, leaving the vulnerable pensioner not only devastated but hit with court summons for unpaid bills.

Daily £250 Withdrawals and Brazen Theft Exposed

The fraud was busted when the Co-Operative Bank alerted the victim to suspicious activity. Records revealed daily withdrawals of the £250 maximum from various locations for four straight weeks. In a chilling incident on 29 August 2019, Jenna withdrew £250 from the victim’s card while her mother and great aunt waited in a car — and even twirled gleefully as she came back with the cash.

Money was also drained from the victim’s Post Office account, which she used regularly for bills. From June 13, 2019, her balance plunged from over £5,000 to just £300 in three and a half months. Only days before this, Jenna was made a “permanent agent” on the account, gaining full withdrawal access — unknowingly handing her the keys to the cash pot.

Tragic Toll: Victim Dies During Investigation

Gut-wrenchingly, the elderly great aunt passed away during the probe, breaking the family’s hearts — denying them the chance for one last Christmas together. The twins pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 November.

Jenna, of Carlton, was jailed for two years for three counts of fraud. Jon received two years and eight months for two counts.

Family Speaks Out: ‘Auntie Eva Was Betrayed’

“Auntie Eva died just over six weeks after finding out that my daughter Jenna had stolen thousands of pounds from her and later discovered my son Jon was involved too,” said the twins’ mother, Marion Goldfeather.

“Auntie Eva was the family matriarch, the last of her generation, and she had been through so much. She lived and breathed for her family — including Jenna and Jon. Yet they manipulated and robbed her hard-earned money.”

“She was inconsolable when she found out. Despite battling breast cancer, she had a fighting spirit — but the police investigation broke her. She lost the will to live.”

“The pain has shattered our family. We feel as if we’ve served a sentence of nightmares and guilt. We need peace to start loving again and to let Eva finally rest.”

Police Warn: ‘Fraudsters Will Face Tough Justice’

“This was an appalling betrayal of trust against a vulnerable elderly woman,” said Detective Constable Nicola Watson from Nottinghamshire Police’s Fraud Investigation Team.

“Jenna and Jon abused their position of trust, taking thousands from their own great aunt for their own gain.”

“We welcome the court’s decision and hope the sentences encourage them to reflect on the emotional devastation they’ve caused their family.”

“Nottinghamshire Police take fraud extremely seriously and will act robustly against offenders.”
