Ex-HGV Driver Nicholas Dalby Jailed for Rape and Sexual Assault

Nicholas Dalby, 50, from Thirsk, has been locked up for eight years at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple sex offences. The victim, now in her 30s, bravely came forward in 2020 to reveal horrors spanning 2002 to 2005.

Victim Details Shocking Abuse

The woman told police how Dalby, an HGV driver, raped and sexually assaulted her in terrifying attacks at his home, his static caravan, and inside his truck. Dalby was already behind bars for similar crimes against another child when North Yorkshire Police interviewed him.

Despite his denials during questioning, Dalby was charged and pled guilty on the day his trial was set to start.

Eight Years in Prison After Guilty Plea

  • Three counts of rape
  • Four counts of indecent assault
  • One count of indecency with a child

He will serve this sentence after finishing his current jail term. Dalby also received a one-year extended licence and a sexual harm prevention order.

Victim Sends Message of Strength

“You shaped me as a child and teenager, but you will not shape me as an adult. This is where my strength has come from: I will not allow you to harm another child. By speaking up and telling the truth, this is the only way to protect other girls from harm.”

Detective Sergeant Sarah Jobe praised the victim’s courage: “Dalby denied the offences throughout the investigation, causing further trauma. But her strength has ensured justice is done.”

She urged other survivors to come forward: “It’s never too late to seek support. Speaking to the police or other organisations can help you get advice and protect others from harm.”
