Man Arrested Over Northern Ireland Security Alert
Police have detained a 41-year-old man linked to a major security scare in north Belfast on Friday.
UVF Suspected in Bomb Threat Incident
The attack targeted an event held by the John and Pat Hume Foundation at the Houben Centre on Crumlin Road. Sinn Féin’s Mr Coveney was evacuated amid fears the UVF paramilitary group was behind the threat.
The Houben Centre was swiftly cleared, disrupting a funeral service at nearby Holy Cross church. Two gunmen reportedly forced a van driver to deliver what he believed was a bomb to the church.
Police Raid Yields Firearm and Cash
Detectives from the Serious Crime Branch arrested the man under the Terrorism Act. He is currently being questioned at the Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.
A 38-year-old woman has also been arrested and is assisting police after being held on suspicion of firearm possession, handling criminal property, and concealment.
Recent raids in Ballysillan and Springmartin areas netted a suspected firearm, two vehicles, controlled substances, and a significant sum of cash.
Political Condemnation and Unanswered Questions
Politicians across the board condemned the Friday incident, but the police have so far refused to link the attack to loyalist anger over the Northern Ireland Protocol.
The investigation continues as authorities probe motives and connections.
