Rotherham Man Jailed for Sex Chat Swindle on Social Media
Christopher Rowe, 29, thought he was chatting with a child online. Turns out, he was actually messaging an adult member of an activist group posing as a youngster.
Explicit Images and Solicitation Exposed
Despite being warned about the “child’s” age, Rowe sent explicit messages, pictures, and videos. He even tried to get sexually explicit images back in return.
Locked Up for Over Three Years at Nottingham Crown Court
Arrested in Styrrup in April 2021, Rowe of Pringle Road, Brinsworth, eventually pleaded guilty. His charges included attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, inciting a girl to sexual activity, and trying to make a child view sexual images.
The court sentenced him to three years and four months behind bars. On release, he’ll face strict limits on his online behaviour thanks to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Rowe must also spend life on the sex offenders’ register.
Police Warn Others: Online Groomers Will Be Caught
“Rowe clearly believed he was in contact with a child when he sent a series of sexually explicit images and messages via social media,” said Detective Constable Keeley Bringhurst of Nottinghamshire Police.
“Worse still, he tried to persuade that child to send him images in return and engage in sexual activity. He poses a significant risk to vulnerable young people. I’m glad he’s now behind bars.”
“This case should warn anyone thinking of grooming children online. We are watching, and you will be caught.”
