Prime Suspect in Suzy Lamplugh Murder on Deathbed
John Cannan Faces Final Hours in Prison
John Cannan, 68, the prime suspect in the mysterious disappearance and murder of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh, is reportedly on his deathbed. The convicted killer is receiving end-of-life palliative care in Full Sutton prison, East Yorkshire.
Suzy’s family, who have never found her body, are desperate for answers in her case. They hope Cannan will finally reveal the truth before he dies.
Suzy’s Vanishing in Fulham Still a Mystery After Decades
Suzy Lamplugh, 25, vanished in July 1986 in Fulham, West London, after meeting a man she nicknamed “Mr Kipper,” whose photofit was circulated at the time. Her white Ford Fiesta was later found abandoned nearby with her purse inside, doors unlocked, and handbrake off.
The police named Cannan as the main suspect in 2002. However, the Crown Prosecution Service said there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him. Multiple digs for Suzy’s body have been carried out over the years, including searches at Cannan’s mother’s former home in Sutton Coldfield and a 2019 excavation in Worcestershire.
Cannan’s Dark Past: Murder Conviction and Denials
Cannan is currently serving life for the abduction and murder of Shirley Banks in 1987 and has three life sentences. Despite this, he has vehemently denied any involvement in Suzy’s disappearance.
“I had no involvement in Suzy Lamplugh’s disappearance,” he told the Sunday Mirror in 2019. “I’m worried that the police will use Suzy’s disappearance to undermine my parole chances.”
He also claimed The Met are using him as a “convenient peg” to pin the cold case on.
Family Plea: “Tell Us Where Suzy Is”
Suzy’s brother Richard, unaware of Cannan’s critical health until recently, made a heartfelt plea:
“I would like Cannan, if he knows, to tell us what happened to Suze. It would mean a great deal to the family.”
He urged the suspect to disclose Suzy’s whereabouts, so the family can finally bury her properly, rather than leaving her fate in mystery.
The chilling case still haunts Britain after nearly 40 years. With Cannan on death’s door, the hope is that the truth about Suzy Lamplugh will finally come to light.
