York Cops Sacked Over Racist WhatsApp Messages

Two North Yorkshire officers, Detective Constable Danielle Kirby (1911) and Police Constable James Mills (225), have been booted out after racist and offensive WhatsApp messages came to light.

Four-Day Hearing Uncovers Disgraceful Conduct

The scandal emerged following a four-day panel hearing at North Yorkshire Police Headquarters in Northallerton. The pair were found guilty of gross misconduct under Regulation 30 of the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020. Their messages, exchanged between December 2018 and March 2019, contained racist, discriminatory, and deeply offensive content.

Deputy Chief Constable Burns the Pair

“The racist language and sentiments contained in the series of WhatsApp messages are repulsive,” said Deputy Chief Constable Mabs Hussain.

“It has no place in society, let alone from people who have sworn an oath to uphold the highest standards of fairness, integrity and respect to all people.”

“The evidence was damning. The panel rightly upheld the gross misconduct, and the officers have been dismissed from North Yorkshire Police.”

Police Promise Action and Inclusivity

DCC Hussain acknowledged the blow to public trust but vowed robust action against such behaviour.

“While cases like this damage confidence, the police are overwhelmingly a force for good. Our officers work around the clock to keep communities safe,” she said.

“We are determined to make North Yorkshire Police more diverse, inclusive and representative through recruitment that reflects the communities we serve.”
