Double Murder Shocks Quiet Cambridgeshire Villages

Police swooped on two separate crime scenes in Cambridgeshire last night after reports of gunshots shook the local communities. Within minutes of each other, two men were found dead, both victims of gunshot wounds. The deaths are now being treated as murder.

Two Men Shot Dead Minutes Apart

Officers were first called to Meridian Close, Bluntisham, just after 9pm on 29 March, where they discovered the body of a 32-year-old man inside a property. Minutes later, at 9.37pm, police received another report of gunshots near Ely in Sutton. There, the body of a 57-year-old man was found at a house on The Row.

Neither victim has been formally identified yet.

Three Arrested Over ‘Conspiracy to Murder’

The investigation accelerated into the early hours with the arrests of a 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman in cambridge/" title="Cambridge" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Cambridge, plus a 66-year-old man in Worcester. All three face charges on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Officers have also recovered a white Peugeot 208 thought to be linked to the shootings, along with a shotgun.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Inspector Mark Butler from the major crime unit said: “Tonight we have launched two linked murder investigations following the shootings of two men at separate properties in the county. These events will be shocking to local people, but we believe the attacks were targeted and there is no wider risk to the public.”

“There will be increased police presence in the areas today. We’re appealing to anyone who saw suspicious activity or spotted a white Peugeot 208 to come forward. No detail is too small.”

“Our thoughts are with the families and friends, and specially trained officers are supporting them through this tragedy.”

The properties remain cordoned off as police continue their urgent investigation.
