Police Officers Ploughed Into During Suspect’s Shock Getaway
Three officers on patrol in Common Road had a nasty surprise on 17 September 2020. They stopped a stationary Ford Kuga to carry out routine checks. But things quickly turned ugly.
Driver Rams Police Car, Injures Officers
As the checks were underway, the suspect allegedly reversed the Ford Kuga, smashing into a police vehicle and two officers before speeding off. The dangerous manoeuvre left officers injured and sparked a manhunt.
Suspect Caught and Charged with Series of Serious Offences
The car was later found abandoned in Pilgrims Way near Eccles. On 6 April, the driver – Mr Lleshi – was slapped with multiple charges including attempted grievous bodily harm to a police officer, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, dangerous driving, and possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
Mr Lleshi was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 5 May. Police continue to underscore the dangers officers face on the beat.
