Red Light Stop Sparks Drug Bust in Hyson Green
Police pulled over a Volkswagen Golf in Hyson Green after it ran a red light at the busy Bentinck and Radford Road junction.
The driver, Kliyan Dinnall, slammed the brakes but refused to speak, roll down his window fully, or exit the car. Front seat passenger Tessfa McKenzie-Anderson stayed put, keeping quiet.
Refusal to Cooperate Ends with Smashed Window and Arrest
Dinnall finally cracked his window an inch, and officers immediately caught a whiff of cannabis. Still, he refused to get out, forcing police to smash a window and drag both men from the vehicle.
Both were arrested on suspicion of drug offences.
Drugs, Cash and Phones Seized
A thorough search of McKenzie-Anderson uncovered 27 wraps of crack cocaine worth £270 and 29 wraps of heroin valued at £290. No drugs were found on Dinnall, but two mobile phones seized from him contained texts suggesting drug dealing.
The stopped car also yielded bags of cannabis worth £70 and a hefty £910 in cash. The bust happened on 9 December 2019.
Sentencing Delivered at Nottingham Crown Court
- McKenzie-Anderson, 31, of Pulborough Close, Basford, was given a two-year jail term, suspended for two years, after admitting possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin, plus supplying cannabis.
- Dinnall, 33, from Dungannon Road, Clifton, received an 18-month suspended sentence for supplying cannabis and involvement in cocaine supply.
Detective Constable Eliot Longdon of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was a great bit of work by alert officers who spotted Dinnall running the red light. Their actions uncovered a significant haul of Class A and B drugs. These substances devastate communities and are often tied to serious violence. We won’t tolerate drug supply and will keep smashing the dealers’ operations.”
