A bizarre pitch invasion rocked Dunston Football Club in Gateshead on Friday night. Just before 8.20pm on July 21, during halftime of the Dunston UTS vs Gateshead match, two vehicles – a Subaru and a hearse – stormed the pitch, throwing the game into chaos.

Masked Mob Throws Leaflets, Subaru Flees

Witnesses say the cars circled the pitch before a gang wearing balaclavas popped out, tossing leaflets across the field. The Subaru sped off before police arrived, but the hearse was left abandoned right on the turf.

Twelve Arrested as Investigation Gathers Pace

Police launched a swift investigation, detaining 12 suspects. A 29-year-old man now faces charges for causing criminal damage and a public order offence. He’s due in South Tyneside magistrates later this month.

  • Two others, aged 42 and 40, are on police bail
  • Seven arrested have been released with no further action
