Bradley Smith Found Guilty of Shocking Sexual Crimes in Chelmsford

Bradley Smith, 46, from Imperial Avenue, Chelmsford, has been slammed with multiple sexual offence convictions and coercive controlling behaviour. The verdict came after a gruelling two-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 13, following a thorough probe by the Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team.

Disturbing Details Revealed During Investigation

The nightmare began in 2021 when a woman bravely reported Smith to Essex Police. She claimed he took explicit photos of her without permission and threatened to share them. Even more chilling, Smith shot her pet hamster with a BB gun and sent her a photo of the dead animal to intimidate her.

Charges Laid and Verdicts Delivered

  1. Coercive and Controlling Behaviour: The court found Smith guilty of using manipulative tactics seriously impacting the victim’s wellbeing.
  2. Sexual Assault by Penetration: He was convicted on two counts, underlining the severity of his crimes.
  3. Disclosure of Private Sexual Material: Smith had already admitted to sharing private sexual photos and films intending to cause distress.

Smith denied rape charges and other assault allegations. However, the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on one rape count.

Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery

Detective Sergeant Jade Lawton from Essex Police praised the victim’s courage: “She has carried herself with dignity throughout this horrific ordeal. Smith repeatedly sent threatening messages that were utterly abhorrent.”

Lawton added, “I hope she can now begin to heal and understand she never deserved this.”

Sentencing Date Set

Smith is due back in court at Chelmsford Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, June 21.
