HGV Blaze Brings M25 to a Grinding Halt

A massive fire involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) has slammed the M25 in Surrey to a complete standstill.

The inferno sparked just after 2:30pm today (June 12) on the clockwise M25, between Junction 11 (Chertsey) and Junction 12 (M3). Motorists were caught in chaos as flames engulfed the vehicle, spewing thick black smoke into the air.

Huge Delays and Massive Traffic Jam

National Highways (@HighwaysEAST) took to X (formerly Twitter) urging drivers to brace for delays and to allow extra travel time in the affected area.

The AA reported snarled traffic stretching for three miles and delays inching up to 60 minutes. Video footage from the scene showed bright orange flames devouring the HGV, accompanied by dense smoke plumes visible for miles.

Firefighters and Traffic Officers Battle the Blaze

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service are tackling the blaze with help from traffic officers. Authorities have shut down the stretch of the motorway until the fire is fully under control due to safety concerns.

Official statements from the brigade note the danger posed by the burning vehicle and warn no traffic can pass through the scene for now.
