Ryanair Pilots Killed in Horror M62 Crash

Two Ryanair pilots lost their lives in a terrifying motorway smash involving two lorries and a car on the M62 near Warrington, Cheshire Police have confirmed.

The tragedy happened Thursday morning, as Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24, were travelling in a taxi to Liverpool Airport. Both men died instantly at the scene.

Taxi Driver Serious but Survives

The taxi driver, not yet named, remains in hospital with serious injuries. A 61-year-old man has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Cheshire Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. The incident caused major delays on the M62 before the road was fully reopened after hours of emergency response.

“We are devastated by the tragic loss of Captain Matt Greenhalgh and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends at this difficult time,” a Ryanair spokesperson said.
