Heartbreaking Search for Missing Diver Emily Sherwin Ends Without Trace
The family of 20-year-old Emily Sherwin have spoken out after a desperate search failed to locate her following a diving trip near Old Harry Rocks, Swanage.
Poole Woman Missing Since July 23
Emily, from Poole, vanished on the evening of July 23, 2024, after she failed to resurface during a dive. Despite round-the-clock efforts by HM Coastguard, the RNLI, and Avon and Somerset Police’s specialized dive team, Emily remains missing.
Family Pays Tribute to Free-Spirited Emily
“We are heartbroken at the loss of Emily, but eternally grateful for the 20 wonderful years we had with her,” her family said. “Finding comfort knowing she was doing what she loved.”
Known for her lively spirit and passion for marine conservation, Emily adored the sea, sailing, and diving. “Emily was unique: loving, loyal, and she lit up every room she entered,” the family added.
Massive Search Effort and Police Update
The Sherwin family extended heartfelt thanks to emergency responders and volunteers, including Parkstone Yacht Club, whose 30 boats joined the search.
Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Vallins from Dorset Police said: “Together with partner agencies, we conducted extensive searches but have been unable to locate Emily.
The underwater search has now been called off after expert advice, but Dorset Police vow to keep all options open.
Community Urged to Come Forward
The family remains hopeful despite the grim circumstances, saying: “The search shows the impact Emily had on everyone she met. We will miss her forever.” Dorset Police are appealing for anyone with information about Emily’s disappearance to step forward and help.
