£1.7 Million Cannabis Bust in Sussex: 17 Arrested
Sussex Police have smashed a major cannabis operation, seizing over £1.7 million worth of plants and arresting 17 suspects. This huge haul comes from a national crackdown targeting organised crime networks dealing drugs across the UK.
19 Raids, 1,740 Cannabis Plants Confiscated
Coordinated raids hit 19 locations across Sussex after months of intelligence gathering. Officers uncovered 1,740 cannabis plants with a street value of £1.74 million. Alongside the plants, police seized more than £15,000 in cash, Class A drugs, and £2,000 worth of criminal property.
High-Profile Raids in Eastbourne and Brighton
- In Eastbourne, officers found 500 cannabis plants at an industrial site on Maple Road. Two men, Eljohn Majika and Klevis Kurtie, both 22 and without fixed addresses, were arrested and later pleaded guilty. They remain in custody awaiting sentencing.
- A 29-year-old man from Eastbourne was also arrested for allegedly producing Class B drugs but has been released on bail pending further investigation.
- Further raids in Brighton led to seven individuals being charged with drug supply offences.
Sussex Police Crack Down on Organised Crime
“Partnership operations like these are key to disrupting organised crime groups who do untold harm to our communities,” said Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Dias. “The damage caused by illegal drugs goes far beyond the substances — it drives violence, anti-social behaviour, and exploits the vulnerable, including children.”
Sussex Police are urging the public to report any suspicious drug activity confidentially via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
