Met Police Renew Hunt for Mahad Abdi Mohamed’s Killers Three Months After Fatal Tottenham Shooting
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have stepped up their appeal for information three months after the tragic shooting of 28-year-old Mahad Abdi Mohamed in Tottenham. The victim was fatally shot in a suspected case of mistaken identity.
Fatal Shooting on Waverley Road
Mahad, a devoted son, brother, and father, was shot in the head at around 8:45pm on Thursday, 20 March, while enjoying an evening with a friend on Waverley Road, Tottenham. Gunmen in a stolen silver Mitsubishi Outlander opened fire, striking Mahad multiple times. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and members of the public, he died at the hospital.
His 26-year-old friend was also wounded, suffering a gunshot to the leg. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police Believe It Was a Case of Mistaken Identity
Officers suspect the attack was targeted but went horribly wrong, with Mahad caught in the crossfire by mistake. The stolen Mitsubishi was later discovered burnt out in Runcorn Close, N17 the following morning.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of murder in March and April but have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the inquiry, pleaded: “This tragic event, and Mahad’s killing, has left a family devastated. Regardless of how small you think your information is, please share it with us.”
She urged witnesses to come forward, especially anyone who saw suspicious activity or the silver Mitsubishi Outlander on the night of the shooting.
“We understand how daunting it can be to come forward, but my team and I are here to support you. Your tip could be the vital piece we need to bring Mahad’s killers to justice,” added DCI Woodsford.
Family Plea for Justice
Mahad’s youngest sister made a heartfelt plea:
“To stay silent means my little brother grows up not knowing what happened to his father. If you know something and haven’t come forward, please do so. Mahad deserves better. He deserves justice.”
