Tragic Toddler Dies After Serious Incident in Newport
The devastated family of one-year-old Jayla-Jean Mclaren have paid a heartfelt tribute as police probe her sudden death in Newport.
Jayla-Jean was rushed to hospital with serious injuries on Friday, 1 August, after emergency services were called at 11:34am. Despite doctors’ desperate efforts, she passed away two days later on Sunday, 3 August.
Emotional Family Tribute
In an emotional statement, Jayla-Jean’s family said:
“Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess.”
Two Arrested and Bailed
Police arrested a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
They have since been released on conditional police bail as investigations continue.
Police Call for Calm and Information
Detective Superintendent Rod Kenny of Hampshire Constabulary, who is leading the inquiry, said:
“Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew Jayla-Jean. Emotions are running high in the community following this devastating loss. We are working tirelessly to uncover the full facts.”
“We urge people not to speculate as this causes more pain to the family and could hinder our investigation.”
