A 23-year-old prison officer has admitted to having an illicit fling with an inmate across two South Wales jails. Megan Breen confessed to a three-month “inappropriate relationship” with a prisoner while working at HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed between February and May 2022.
Prison Officer’s Scandalous Affair Exposed
Breen initially denied misconduct in a public office but flipped her plea to guilty at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court yesterday. The court heard she wilfully abused the public’s trust by forming a personal relationship with the inmate during her time as a public officer.
Claim of Illegal Computer Access Dropped
Prosecutors decided not to pursue a second charge alleging Breen illegally accessed a computer. Despite this, the judge slapped her with bail but warned she could face jail when sentenced next month.
Shamed Officer Worked at Two Category C Prisons
Both HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed are Category C prisons in Gwent, housing male inmates. The Ministry of Justice has yet to comment further on the case.
