Sham ‘Coppers’ Ransack Pensioner’s Home in Dead of Night!
Two brazen fake police officers targeted an 80-year-old man at his First Avenue home around 9.40pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
Imposters Forced Their Way In
The elderly victim answered a knock at the door, only for the two men to allegedly barge inside, falsely claiming to be police officers. They then searched the man, made off with his wallet and a sum of cash.
Suspects Described as Stocky with English Accents
- Age: 30 to 40 years old
- Build: Stocky
- Height: Around 5ft 8ins
- Hair: Short, dark
- Accents: English
Police Issue Urgent Warning
Detective Constable Kati Edge of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad said: “While the victim was thankfully unharmed, this was an extremely distressing incident for the two residents. Investigators are completing enquiries to identify the suspects and we are appealing to anyone with information to contact us.”
She added: “I want to reassure the public that legitimate plain clothes officers always carry warrant cards and will show photo ID if asked.”

- Use a spyhole and door chain; always ask who’s there before opening.
- Don’t open the door to unexpected visitors without proper ID.
- If unsure, ask them to come back when a friend or family member is home.
