Right-Wing Extremist Mason Yates Bagged by Police in Widnes Raid
Mason Yates, 19, from Elstree Court, Widnes, was arrested in January 2021 after police swooped on his home. Officers uncovered a stash of media devices stuffed with extreme Right-Wing content.
Hateful Images and Terror Links Found
Police seized Yates’s phone, recovering a trove of extremist images and electronic documents linked to terror activity. He now faces two charges of gathering information likely to help prepare acts of terrorism, under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Earlier Guilty Plea over Extreme Porn
Yates had already admitted to possessing an extreme pornographic image, breaking Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2003. The shocking material was discovered during the search of his phone.
Authorities Hit Hard Against Extremism
CTPNW Detective Chief Inspector Clare Devlin said: “This was a thorough and comprehensive investigation that resulted in Yates facing 30 months in prison.”
“Today’s sentencing reaffirms our commitment to hunting down and prosecuting anyone who threatens our safety. Extremism spreads fear and distrust. We are determined to tackle it head-on.”
Call to Action: Report Suspicions
Detective Devlin urged the public: “If you spot extremist views or suspicious behaviour, don’t hesitate. Call the UK Anti-Terrorism Hotline confidentially at 0800 789 321 or use the secure online form at Gov.uk/ACT.”
