Lifelong Jail for Rapist Spotted by Sharp-Eyed Cop
Shane Nash, 39, was caught walking with two mates on Muirfield Road, Top Valley, on 31 January. But this wasn’t a casual stroll – an alert police officer in a marked patrol car instantly recognised him from a CCTV clip linked to a shocking rape just days earlier.
Chilling Crime Caught on Camera
Two days prior, Nash violently grabbed a teenage girl in a dark alley near Rise Park. He threatened her before committing the brutal attack. Parts of the assault were caught on CCTV, and the footage sparked a media blitz asking for public help.
After seeing the footage, the officer immediately noticed Nash’s distinctive walk and broad, square shoulders. His clothes matched those worn by the attacker, down to the grey trainers.
Unearthed Evidence Seals Nash’s Fate
Police officers stopped Nash straight away. A search of his bag unveiled more damning proof — a black beanie hat and red sleeping bag the victim had described. Nash, once from Boniface Gardens, Bestwood, was arrested for rape.
He fiercely denied the charges, even when DNA evidence pinned him to the crime. But at his second court hearing in March, Nash finally pleaded guilty to one rape and one attempted rape.
Life Behind Bars and Lifetime Registration
Sentenced today, Nash was jailed for life with a minimum of 15 years locked up. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
“This was a horrific crime that shocked and appalled the local community,” said Detective Inspector Craig Hall, leading the Nottinghamshire Police investigation.
“The victim was simply walking home when she was attacked. She’s been traumatised, and this will affect her and her family forever. Throughout it all, she showed remarkable courage and dignity.
Nash, by contrast, displayed no remorse and denied everything even with the evidence stacked against him. Thanks to top-notch police work, he’ll now spend a very long time behind bars.”
