A 66-year-old man, Steve Gerald James Wright, has been formally charged with the kidnapping and murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall, whose body was discovered in a ditch five days after she went missing in 1999.
Wright appeared via video link from custody at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court as this chilling cold case was reopened by authorities.
The Tragic Disappearance of Victoria Hall
Victoria Hall, from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, was last seen alive shortly after 2:20am on September 19, 1999. She had separated from a friend after leaving the Bandbox nightclub in Felixstowe.
The following morning, her parents reported that she had not returned home, prompting a missing person’s inquiry that remained unresolved for many years.
Her body was found five days later at Creeting St Peter, approximately 25 miles from where she was last seen.
The heartbreaking case remained unsolved for decades, deeply affecting the local community and investigators.
Steve Wright Faces Grim Charges
Steve Wright, formerly of London Road, Ipswich, is now charged not only with the murder of Victoria Hall but also with attempting to kidnap another woman the day before Victoria vanished.
Suffolk Police revealed that on September 18, 1999, a 22-year-old woman reported being followed and attacked in Felixstowe by a man believed to be Wright.
During the brief court hearing, Wright confirmed his identity but did not enter a plea. He remains in custody and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at Ipswich Crown Court later this week.
Attempted Kidnapping Linked to Wright
Police state that Wright allegedly attempted to abduct Emily Doherty in Felixstowe between 3am and 4am on September 18, 1999, just one day before Victoria Hall disappeared.
This attempted kidnapping charge adds a disturbing dimension to the case.
Wright has yet to respond to the charges but remains in custody as the investigation continues.
This long-cold case is finally progressing, offering hope for justice after more than twenty years.
