A massive fire ripped through a disused building in Chesterfield, causing extensive damage. The cause of the blaze remains a mystery despite a thorough investigation by emergency services.
The fire broke out at 5:23pm on Tuesday, 2 September, at a two-storey property located on Old Road. Firefighters from Chesterfield, Matlock, Staveley, and Clay Cross stations were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Equipped with an aerial ladder platform and breathing apparatus, crews fought the flames using multiple main jets. Their efforts continued relentlessly until 3:30am on Wednesday morning, 3 September. Firefighters returned later that day at 8:30am to reinspect the site and carry out further fire investigation work.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that the fire caused such severe destruction that it is impossible to determine the exact cause. Derbyshire Constabulary attended the scene and are now appealing for public assistance.
