A South London man was fatally stabbed on his doorstep while desperately dialling 999, a court has revealed. Leon Anderson, aged 39, was attacked outside his home in Maple Close, Mitcham, at approximately 7.30pm on Sunday, April 28. His wife, Natasha Anderson, witnessed the horrific attack.

Kemuel Gambicky-Forbes, 24, from Mitcham, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. Wearing a grey prison tracksuit, he appeared at the Old Bailey on May 6 and was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Paul Case told the court that the stabbing occurred while Mr Anderson was still on a 999 emergency call. “The incident happened on his front doorstep while he was on a 999 call,” Mr Case said. The murder weapon remains missing, but police have described it as “a weapon of some significance.”

Judge Sarah Whitehouse KC characterised the killing as a “spontaneous outburst of violence with fatal consequences.” A plea hearing is scheduled for July 22, with trial dates set to begin on January 12, 2026.

The local community has been left reeling by the shocking attack. Pastor El Safo, 50, who has lived in the area for over 15 years, spoke about the impact on the tight-knit neighbourhood. “It’s a very quiet area. I’ve lived here for over 15 years and never seen anything like this. It’s really unfortunate and has caused a lot of panic,” he said. He added that his own son was traumatised after witnessing paramedics desperately trying to save Mr Anderson.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of Specialist Crime South said: “The victim’s loved ones are being supported by specially trained officers. They have our deepest sympathies following this terrible loss.” Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 6812/28APR.
