Six individuals have been jailed following a brutal, premeditated attack on a transgender teenager in Harrow. The victim, aged 18, was stabbed nine times in a violent assault that has caused lasting physical and emotional trauma.

On the evening of Saturday, 10 February 2024, police responded to reports of a robbery and stabbing on Masons Avenue, Harrow. The 18-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but survived the attack. She has since been discharged and continues to recover with ongoing support.

Investigations uncovered that the attack was a targeted transphobic hate crime. The victim was lured to the location under the false premise of attending a roller skating event. Instead, a group of attackers, who had coordinated the assault through a Snapchat group chat, ambushed her. The assailants wore face coverings and were armed, having planned the violent attack in advance.

On Thursday, 16 January 2025, the Old Bailey handed down sentences to those involved. Summer Betts-Ramsey, 20, with no fixed address, was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months, serving 4 years and 6 months in custody for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. Bradley Harris, 18, of Carmelite Road, Harrow, and Cameron Beals, 18, of Kinlock Road, Tadworth, each received 3-year sentences for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty to robbery and cannabis possession, with sentencing pending. Additionally, a 16-year-old boy was given an 18-month supervision order for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The victim delivered a moving impact statement in court, saying: “At times when I close my eyes, I replay the assault in my head and visualise the knife being used on me. I am unable to control this, and I feel at times that this is taking over my life. I am not living a normal life, and I am not sure if my life will ever be the same again.” She also spoke about the profound hate she experienced as a transgender woman, which she never expected from others.

Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant, who led the investigation, commented: “This was a horrendous and violent assault on a young woman, motivated by the fact she is transgender. Summer Betts-Ramsey and Bradley Harris orchestrated the attack, with Betts-Ramsey repeatedly stabbing the victim. This premeditated attack could have easily resulted in the death of the victim.”

DI Hannant praised the victim’s courage and highlighted the importance of prosecuting hate crime offenders. The Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to supporting all communities, including transgender individuals, through dedicated LGBT+ Community Liaison Officers (CLOs).
