Car thieves targeted homes in Bassetlaw in a series of early morning break-ins, stealing car keys from inside properties and using them to take vehicles. These incidents occurred in the early hours and have resulted in multiple arrests.

On Christmas Day at approximately 1.50am, burglars broke into a house on Wright Drive, Bircotes. They took car keys from inside the property and used them to drive away a vehicle parked outside. Following a thorough police investigation, a 39-year-old woman was arrested on 3 January on suspicion of burglary.

Earlier, on 30 December at 4.15am, intruders forced entry into a property on Great North Road in Scrooby. They stole car keys and took a vehicle. Fortunately, the car was later recovered with the victim’s purse still inside. A 41-year-old man was arrested the next day on suspicion of burglary and was also charged with possession of a Class A drug while in custody.

Two additional men, aged 52 and 42, were arrested on 1 January on suspicion of burglary. Both have since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Inspector Paul Lefford of Nottinghamshire Police said, “Having your property broken into and belongings stolen is distressing. We’re committed to making these crimes rare. Four arrests have been made so far and inquiries continue.”

He urged anyone with information to contact police by calling 101, quoting incident 45 of 25 December for Bircotes or incident 93 of 30 December for Scrooby. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
