Police officers were injured during a dramatic burglary raid at a property in Harlaxton Walk, St Ann’s, just before 2.30am on 23 December following reports of a break-in.

Suspects inside the home refused to answer the door despite noises being heard. When officers forced entry, a violent confrontation broke out.

During the arrest, one officer was struck by a piece of mortar, sustaining a head injury that required 10 stitches. Another officer was punched in the face, while a third sprained his wrist after falling while assisting with the arrests.

Two men, aged 27 and 42, were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary, assaulting police officers, and cannabis cultivation. Police discovered cannabis plants growing in three rooms of the property, all of which have been seized for destruction. Authorities are continuing to search for a third suspect.

Inspector Richard Markham of Nottinghamshire Police condemned the violence and drug-related crime, stating, “Assaults on police officers who are simply carrying out their duties to keep our communities safe are completely unacceptable. Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and I am pleased we now have two individuals in custody arrested in connection with this incident.”

He added, “The production and distribution of drugs harm communities and often link to other serious crimes. We remain committed to catching anyone involved in drug-related offences.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information. Anyone with details is urged to call 101 quoting incident 60 from 23 December 2022 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
