A 20-year-old man was arrested early on Thursday, 8 April, on suspicion of Section 18 wounding after a thorough police investigation into a brutal stabbing in Bootle. He is currently in custody and being questioned at a local police station.

The victim, a 12-year-old child, remains in hospital but police have confirmed that they expect a quick recovery. The attack has deeply affected the local community.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney urged witnesses to assist the ongoing investigation. She said, “It’s good we made a swift arrest, but the investigation is ongoing. We’re piecing together what happened and need anyone with information—CCTV, dashcam footage or tips—to contact us immediately.”

She added, “We know this has caused concern locally. This was not a random attack; everyone involved is from the area. Assaulting a young person is despicable. Anyone with information must come forward, anonymously if needed, via Crimestoppers. We will take action.”
