Specialist officers from Essex Search and Rescue (ESAR) are conducting a massive search covering over 4 square miles in Essex to find missing birdwatcher Timothy Hatcher. The search area includes Hylands Park, Meadgate Avenue, and stretches along the River Chelmer.
In a determined effort, a 4km section of the River Chelmer has been carefully searched by canoe, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are approaching the operation.
So far, 31 ESAR volunteers have contributed an impressive 375 person-hours to the ongoing search. Their dedication has been vital in thoroughly covering the extensive search area, and the team continues to work tirelessly without pause.
Detective Superintendent Scott Egerton commented, “This has been an extensive investigation so far and we are continuing to do everything possible to find Timothy.” He added, “The support from the public has been fantastic. I’d like to thank the community members who’ve come forward with information.”
Timothy Hatcher is known as a keen birdwatcher who regularly visits Baddow, the A1114, Hylands Park, and Meadgate Avenue. He is often seen wearing a distinctive yellow high-visibility jacket, images of which have already been released to the public.
Police are also seeking to identify a man seen with Timothy in early December. The man was observed purchasing trainers at JD Sports in High Chelmer. Authorities urge anyone with information about Timothy’s whereabouts or who recognises the man to contact Essex Police on 101 immediately.
