A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the busy A5 near Cannock on Wednesday 31 December. Staffordshire Police were called to Watling Street at around 11am following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a lorry.

Emergency crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead shortly after arriving.

The victim’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.

The lorry driver was unhurt in the incident. The A5 was closed in both directions during emergency operations but is expected to reopen soon, which will help ease delays on this important route.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward.
