Two lanes on a busy Hampshire motorway are closed this lunchtime after a collision involving a car and a van. Motorists are facing lengthy delays as traffic grinds to a halt.

The accident occurred just after 11.20am on the southbound carriageway of the M3 between junction 11 (Winchester) and junction 12 (Otterbourne). The outside and middle lanes remain blocked, leading to long queues building up.

Drivers have reported tailbacks extending beyond the southbound entry slip road at junction 10. This incident adds to the morning’s traffic problems following an earlier crash on the A33.

Emergency crews from Winchester and Eastleigh responded to the earlier A33 collision. They used specialist cutting tools to free two people trapped in vehicles. Both individuals were then handed over to South Central Ambulance Service for treatment.
