Northamptonshire Police Chief Constable Nick Adderley has been suspended while an independent investigation into his conduct is carried out, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold has confirmed.

The suspension follows a public complaint concerning Adderley’s military background. The Office of the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner received the complaint and referred it promptly to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for a formal investigation.

The IOPC is now conducting a formal probe into the allegations. After obtaining independent legal advice, Stephen Mold decided that suspending Adderley was necessary to maintain public confidence, protect the police force’s reputation, and support the Chief Constable himself.

Stephen Mold said, “Allegations of misconduct must always be fully, independently investigated so that the public have confidence in the integrity of the police service and the processes that independently hold policing to account.”

The suspension will be reviewed regularly as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, Mold has stated that no further comments will be made until the inquiry concludes.
