Marc Bell, aged 30, from Burton-upon-Trent, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison following a brutal stabbing incident inside a shop on High Street on 17 December 2024.

The attack occurred when Bell attempted to steal items by stuffing them into a bag but was confronted by the shopkeeper. A violent altercation broke out, during which Bell smashed a glass bottle on the floor and stabbed the victim in the stomach.

After the stabbing, Bell fled to a nearby restaurant to change his clothes and discarded his outfit in a bush. However, police quickly tracked him down and arrested him.

While in custody, Bell assaulted a detention officer by punching through the custody hatch. He now faces charges of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault.

Detective Constable Reece Hingley of the CID stated, “Bell caused his victim serious injuries and despite running away and changing his clothes, he was arrested shortly after. The attack was violent and spontaneous and I hope this sentence shows we are committed to protecting victims across Staffordshire.”
