Neighbours in Swindon played a crucial role in stopping a burglary yesterday evening. Just after 5.45pm on Marlborough Road, residents heard the sound of smashing glass and noticed two suspicious men at a house.
The intruders fled the scene when disturbed, jumping into a car and speeding eastbound along the M4 motorway.
Thanks to a detailed vehicle description provided by the neighbours, police coordinated with nearby forces to track the suspects. At around 9pm, officers from the Metropolitan Police intercepted the getaway car in Lambeth and arrested two men at the scene.
Inside the vehicle, police discovered jewellery, watches, and cash believed to have been stolen during the burglary.
Inspector David Tippetts commented, “We’d like to thank the vigilant neighbours whose quick thinking helped us track down the suspects and recover valuable stolen goods. Two are in custody at Gablecross, and investigations continue.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference 54220122618, or to report anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
