Oxford Street in London became tense today after the Metropolitan Police arrested three young men in response to a viral social media campaign encouraging people to “rob JD Sports” and engage in shoplifting.

The situation escalated after a widely shared post urged crowds to gather on Oxford Street wearing balaclavas and gloves, while advising them not to bring weapons. Concerned about possible disorder, the Metropolitan Police quickly deployed officers and imposed a dispersal order to clear the area.

Video footage captured officers detaining youths amid fears of unrest. The police emphasized their firm stance against any criminal behaviour to prevent further incidents.

Notorious TikTok personality Mizzy, whose real name is Bacari-Bronze O’Garro, was seen on camera being questioned by police. Although known for causing trouble, Mizzy was not arrested but was escorted away from the scene. It remains unclear if he was involved in the planned shoplifting activity.

Retailers and local authorities condemned the stunt. The New West End Company warned shops about potential disturbances involving 16 to 25-year-olds and increased patrols to support police efforts. Several stores, including Vision Express and Boots, temporarily closed before reopening once the situation was under control.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the incident as “nonsense” and urged the public to avoid hotspots to prevent trouble. The Metropolitan Police also used TikTok and other social media platforms to highlight their zero-tolerance policy towards anti-social behaviour.

A 48-hour dispersal order remains in effect on Oxford Street to ensure safety for shoppers and staff. Authorities continue to monitor the impact of social media stunts on public order and are prepared to respond swiftly to maintain security in London’s iconic shopping district.
