A 14-year-old schoolgirl has been remanded in custody after being charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at a school in Petersfield.

The unnamed teenager appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates today after allegedly stabbing a fellow pupil. The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham with stab wounds to her chest but has since returned home to recover.

The incident occurred just after 9.30am on Monday in Cranford Road, Petersfield. Police were called to investigate an assault involving two female pupils. The suspect was arrested at the scene and questioned by officers.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, the teenager also faces charges of threatening someone with a blade on school grounds. She was remanded in custody at Basingstoke Magistrates and is scheduled to appear at Winchester Crown Court on 25 May.
