Two men have been sentenced to prison after a brutal attack involving a knife and a broken chair leg during a home invasion in Snodland.

Barry Bonner, 41, and Paul Dudley, 33, went to a private residence on 19 January 2018. When a teenage boy answered the door, Bonner immediately grabbed a large kitchen knife and threatened to stab both the boy and his dog.

The homeowner, who was familiar with the two men, arrived shortly after. Despite his attempts to defuse the situation, Bonner and Dudley launched a violent assault. They repeatedly punched the man and tried to stab him with the knife.

The attackers then used a chair leg to strike the victim until it snapped. The victim fought back and managed to force the attackers out before contacting the police. He sustained facial cuts and bruises but avoided more serious injuries.

Police quickly located Bonner and Dudley at Snodland railway station. Both were arrested and charged with attempting grievous bodily harm.

At Maidstone Crown Court on 19 July, Bonner and Dudley were each sentenced to eight years in prison.

Detective Sergeant Tom Daveney said: “This vicious attack is believed to have resulted from a previous disagreement. The victim tried to calm the situation down but his attackers were intent on causing him harm. His injuries could have been much worse and I would like to commend him for assisting us to bring these offenders to justice.”
