A man tragically died after his car hit a tree on Oldbury Road in Smethwick shortly after midnight. Emergency services, including West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics, a trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic, and the fire service, responded swiftly to the crash.
Despite urgent advanced life support and rescue efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Rapid Emergency Response West Midlands Ambulance Service deployed one ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, and a critical care paramedic.
The fire service was essential in extricating the man trapped inside his vehicle following the impact. After being freed from the car, the driver was critically injured. Ambulance crews provided advanced life support immediately, but unfortunately, he could not be saved and was confirmed deceased at the site.
The fatal collision occurred on Oldbury Road, Smethwick, in the early hours of the morning. The timing complicated emergency access, but crews arrived promptly to respond.
Official West Midlands Ambulance Service statement: “Upon arrival, ambulance staff discovered a man who was the driver of a car which had been involved in a collision with a tree,” said a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman. “Unfortunately, despite their best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
