Essex Police have launched a murder investigation after a 12-year-old boy died following a vehicle collision on Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, on the evening of Sunday, 7 June.

Emergency services arrived at the scene around 5:40 pm following reports that a car had struck a child. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the boy suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, both from the local area, remain in police custody for questioning. Detectives from the Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate are leading the ongoing investigation.

Ashwells Road remains closed while forensic officers conduct examinations at the scene. Motorists and residents are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes during this time.

Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses who were in the vicinity between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Sunday, 7 June. Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have observed a vehicle driving erratically prior to the incident.

Residents and drivers are also asked to review any doorbell camera footage, CCTV, or dashcam recordings that could assist the investigation. Evidence can be submitted through the police online portal.
