South Yorkshire Police are urgently searching for 21-year-old Sharam Muhamadi, a convicted child sex trafficker who disappeared after failing to appear at Sheffield Crown Court. Muhamadi was convicted in his absence on 9 June for arranging travel for exploitation.

Muhamadi has known links to the West Midlands and was last seen in Birmingham city centre on the evening of Monday 18 May. Witnesses reported seeing him around 9pm near the city centre before he took a taxi heading towards Coventry Road, close to Small Heath Park.

The suspect’s failure to appear at court on 18 May has triggered a significant manhunt. Authorities are treating his absence as a serious public safety concern due to his criminal record and the nature of his offences.

Police believe Muhamadi may be hiding near Small Heath Park in Birmingham. Officers are urging the public not to approach him if spotted but to call 999 immediately, quoting incident number 610 from 21 May 2026. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Investigators have noted that Muhamadi’s connections across Sheffield and the West Midlands complicate efforts to locate him, as there are concerns he could move between these areas to evade capture.

A police statement said: “If anyone has information on Sharam Muhamadi’s whereabouts, please do not approach him and contact emergency services immediately.”
