Boxing manager Asif Vali has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of historic sex offences. The 56-year-old, who was once the manager of Olympic boxing star Amir Khan, now faces a lengthy jail term for crimes committed over a decade ago.
Vali was convicted at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, February 26, following a three-day trial. The charges relate to disturbing incidents involving a woman in Bolton in 2013. He was found guilty of two counts of exposure, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration.
Despite denying all allegations, the jury was not persuaded and returned a guilty verdict. The court heard that Vali repeatedly performed sexual acts on himself in front of the victim. The most serious attack occurred in February 2013, when the woman threw coffee on him in an attempt to escape his grasp.
These offences took place while Vali was managing Amir Khan’s successful boxing career. The sentence represents a significant fall from grace for Vali, who once managed one of Britain’s most prominent sporting figures.
Police have released Vali’s mugshot following the conviction as a warning and reminder of his disgraceful actions.
