A violent offender, David Taylor, 63, from County Durham, has been handed a whole life order after his conviction for two murders and the attempted murder of a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) detective. The sentencing took place at Leeds Crown Court on Friday 19 June, ending a complex investigation spanning multiple police forces across England.

Brutal Murders Revealed

Taylor was found guilty of killing Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, last seen in Ashton-under-Lyne in January 2022, and Kyle Bevan, who died in HMP Wakefield in November 2025 while Taylor was imprisoned. Alisha disappeared after travelling with Taylor in a Volkswagen Passat; her body remains missing.

Attack On GMP Detective

In July 2024, during an interview at HMP Frankland, Taylor launched a premeditated stabbing attack on two visiting GMP officers, seriously wounding one detective. The assault occurred seconds after a break in the interview, using a makeshift shank and narrowly missing the detective’s heart.

Multi-force Investigation

The case involved cooperation between three police forces and detailed investigative work, culminating in one of the harshest sentences available under English law. The sentencing sends a strong message about the consequences of extreme violence towards both civilians and law enforcement personnel.

Police Praise

A GMP spokesperson acknowledged the sentence as the conclusion of a thorough and challenging investigation and paid tribute to all officers and staff involved in bringing Taylor to justice.
