Suspects fled after a police chase ended in a car crashing into a tree and bursting into flames. The incident happened on the A2070 in Hamstreet, shortly after 5.30pm yesterday (February 19, 2026).

A car burst into flames after hitting a tree following a police chase on the A2070. Officers began pursuing a vehicle in Violet Way, Ashford, after suspecting it was using cloned number plates, before following it onto the A2070.

Moments later, the car collided with a tree and caught fire. All occupants left the vehicle on foot and remain outstanding. Kent Fire and Rescue Service assisted police at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, but has since fully reopened. The occupants of the vehicle remain on the run.

Ambulance crews were alerted to the crash but were later stood down before arrival. Pictures from the scene show a dark vehicle which had spun round and was stationary across both lanes.
