A former British Army interpreter who worked alongside UK, US and Danish forces in Afghanistan has been convicted of raping a 19-year-old passenger while working as a taxi driver in Edinburgh.

Abdul Nabizada, 35, was unanimously found guilty following a three-day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The court heard the offence took place on 13 November 2021 after Nabizada picked up the woman in Edinburgh city centre before driving to a secluded location, where the rape took place.

Nabizada denied the charge but was convicted by the jury. He will be sentenced on 11 August after background reports are prepared. As a result of the conviction, he will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
